Waffenschrank: German for ‚weapon safe‘.
The promotional campaign for the women’s refuge targets women of any age and with any social background. The picture of the belts could have been taken in any closet, which indicates that domestic violence occurs, without exception, in all cultures and social classes. One in four women between 16 and 85 has experienced physical violence in Germany. The campaign makes a taboo subject public, displays the problem and gives information about where to get help.
